QUEENSTOWN · LAKE WAKATIPU

Two bedroomsabove the lake.

A two-bedroom house of corten steel and cedar at the foot of Ben Lomond, with a chef in the kitchen and the whole of Lake Wakatipu in front of it. Sleeps four. Booked direct, never through a platform. Scroll to come inside.

01 · ARRIVING

Ten minutes, and then nothing.

You take the Glenorchy road out of town, then Moke Lake Road, then Alpine Retreat, then Summit Lane, and the last of it is forest. We are at the end of it. From the moment you turn off, you stop meeting anybody.

02 · THE HOUSE

Corten steel outside, cedar in.

The house was built into its ridge rather than onto it. The exterior steel took the iron colour of the ranges years ago; inside it is rough-sawn cedar, recycled ironwood beams and black-and-white Italian tiles at the door.

03 · THE ROOM

Floor to ceiling, the whole lake.

Sleeps two in the suite, four in the whole house

The lounge is the heart of it: a Jotul woodburner on a slate hearth, ironwood beams overhead, and glass down the entire lake face. This is the room the house was drawn around.

Book it direct.

The house

Exactly what you get.

Two bedrooms, one lake-facing living room and a kitchen with a chef in it. Let to one group at a time, and never split between parties.

Everything, and nothing else

Luc 22 is a two-bedroom house in a thicket of forest at the base of Ben Lomond, looking down Lake Wakatipu over Wilson Bay and Bob’s Cove. Take the master suite or take the whole house. Either way it is let to one group at a time, and only ever booked directly with us.

Room by room.

Every room faces the same way, because the view is the reason the house is here at all.

The guest is yours. The stay is yours. The money should be too.

Every night you sell through a listing site, somebody who has never seen your place takes a slice of it. A site like this one is simply yours. Guests find it, they book on it, and the whole payment lands with you.

If you own a bach, a lodge or a holiday home, send me a message and tell me about it. I’ll tell you what I’d build and what it would cost, and it costs nothing to ask.
